She graduated from Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi in 2013 with degrees in both Art and International Studies. Her unique blend of interests in visual art and global culture has led her to create a body of work that explores both the emotional and physical landscape. In her work, layers of rich color and spontaneous, intuitive marks allude to geographical form, personal, sensory experience, and story. Her work can be found in private collections across the United States. Andrea is currently living and working in Dallas, Texas.
Statement
My work is about recalling fleeting moments of revelation in both foreign and familiar places, celebrating layers of earth and history as I intertwine my own story with its own. The colors, forms, and linear marks are superimposed, creating cartographic imagery. The compositions allude to the convergence of physical and emotional landscapes, spontaneous marks reflecting my own interactions with these places. It is about expressing, pure, unadulterated emotion in response to real sensory experience, much like the squeal of a child delighting in a newly-discovered puddle.
